In 1914, a baker named Philip Baur and businessman Herbert T. Morris founded the Tasty Baking Company in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania

Their goal was simple: make fresh, affordable baked goods and deliver them daily to local stores. At the time, many baked goods were made in small neighborhood bakeries, and consistency was a challenge.

The Name “Tastykake”

The founders held a contest among employees to name the company’s cakes. The winning suggestion was “Tastykake” because it emphasized the products’ flavor and appeal. The name quickly became synonymous with snack cakes throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
