Kinder Bueno Crispy wafer with hazelnut Italy

Kinder Bueno was developed by the Italian company Ferrero in 1990 as part of its Kinder product line. Ferrero wanted to create a chocolate snack that was lighter and crispier than traditional candy bars. The company combined a thin crispy wafer shell with a smooth hazelnut cream filling, then covered it in milk chocolate and a drizzle of dark chocolate. The name “Bueno” means “good” in Spanish, reflecting the product’s rich taste and quality. After its launch in Europe, Kinder Bueno quickly gained popularity because of its unique combination of crunch and creamy hazelnut flavor, eventually becoming one of Ferrero’s best-selling chocolate snacks worldwide.

Pietro Ferrero was an Italian pastry maker and entrepreneur best known for founding Ferrero. He was born in Farigliano and later opened a pastry shop in Alba.

After World War II, cocoa was expensive and difficult to obtain in Italy. Pietro noticed that the Piedmont region had an abundance of hazelnuts, so he experimented with mixing hazelnuts and a small amount of cocoa to create affordable sweet treats. In 1946, he launched a product called Giandujot, a hazelnut-and-chocolate paste sold in blocks that could be sliced and spread on bread. This invention became the foundation of the Ferrero company.

Pietro’s ideas helped create a business that would later produce world-famous products such as Nutella, Kinder Bueno, Ferrero Rocher, and Tic Tac.
