From a small cinema canteen in Rajkot to snack shelves across India, Balaji Wafers is a story of determination and hard work. What started with a few hand-fried potato chips and a dream grew into a beloved brand enjoyed by millions, proving that even the simplest ideas can become extraordinary success stories

Masala Masti is one of Balaji’s most popular potato chip flavors. It combines a blend of traditional Indian spices to create a bold, tangy, and slightly spicy taste.

Balaji Wafers began as a small family business in 1974 in Rajkot. The Virani brothers—especially Chandubhai Virani and his brothers—came from a farming family. After drought and financial struggles, their family sold ancestral land and moved in search of better opportunities.

The brothers worked at Astron Cinema in Rajkot, doing jobs such as hanging movie posters and running the canteen. They noticed customers were unhappy with the potato wafers being sold, so they began making their own chips. The new wafers quickly became popular, and they named the business Balaji Wafers, inspired by a nearby Balaji temple.

At first, the chips were made by hand at home and delivered to local stores. As demand grew, the family opened a factory in 1989 and expanded across India, eventually becoming one of the country’s largest snack companies.
