The Story of Tate’s Bake Shop
Tate’s Bake Shop began with founder Kathleen King, who started baking cookies at age 11 and selling them at her family’s farm stand in Southampton, New York. In 1980, at age 21, she opened her first bakery, originally called Kathleen’s Bake Shop. After losing control of that business in a partnership dispute, she started over in 2000 and launched Tate’s Bake Shop, named after her father’s nickname, “Tate.”
The company became famous for its thin, crispy chocolate chip cookies made with high-quality ingredients and a distinctive buttery crunch. What started as a local Hamptons bakery grew into a national brand sold across the United States.
In 2018, Tate’s Bake Shop was acquired by Mondelēz International for about $500 million, while continuing to operate under the Tate’s bran
